Accoya®: An Innovation in Wood
Accoya® wood is a durable, stable, and sustainable wood that has been produced by Accsys continuously since 2007. A revolutionary scientific process called acetylation modifies wood to give it properties above and beyond the best hardwoods—and, in many cases, aluminum and PVC.
Wood Acetylation
Acetylation is a process that increases the amount of acetyl molecules in wood, thereby changing its physical properties. The process protects wood from rot without using toxins by making it inedible to most microorganisms and fungi. It also greatly reduces the wood’s tendency to swell and shrink, making it less prone to cracking and ensuring that, when painted, it requires dramatically reduced maintenance.
Accoya opens up new opportunities, including windows, doors, decking, cladding, and glulam structural beams, and is guaranteed for 50 years in exterior use and 25 years when used in the ground.
